We were in town for Thanksgiving this year and decided to go to abcV.
abcV is one of New York City's top vegan destinations. Not everything on the menu is vegan, but most things are. I think the menu was once "plant forward" and now it seems to me nearly fully plant-based. If you go just mention you are vegan and the waitstaff will make sure everything you order is in fact plant-based.
abcV is a place to wow someone with what vegan food can be. It has a lux, high- end feel, the staff are very knowledgeable and the food is excellent. We are very grateful for abcV so it made perfect sense to spend Thanksgiving there.
We celebrated the holiday with long time vegan couple friends. Each of us ordering the Thanksgiving Tour which was an event!
The feast started with the Stuffed Dates, Green Chickpea Hummus, and Squash Puree. Each are signature dishes and on their autumn menu. The Hummus is standout and has been hailed as one of the best dishes in New York City.
Next came the White Yam Dumpling and Market Chicories. A lovely combination of color and flavors.
Next came the main course. The sides were Wild Rice Stuffing with Chestnut and Apple, Blood Orange and Ginger Cranberry Gel, and Potatoes with Sherry Mushroom Gravy. All excellent. The gravy being exceptional. The mains were Crispy Fried Parsnip and Roasted Cabbage. Delicious. Strangely the service here was a little clunky. The sides came out way before the main dishes and we sat wondering if we were meant to eat the cranberry gel by itself as the potatoes got cold. Also, I know it is all the rage this season, but I think a slice of roasted cabbage as a main is a little disappointing. It was delicious, but I wanted something a little more substantial or dramatic. Seeing the perfectly roasted heads of cauliflower being prepared in the kitchen (but not on the tour menu!) didn't help. Since the service was a bit off, maybe we missed some subtly here. However, we asked for a side of the gravy which we simply bathed the cabbage in leaving us with no actual complaints.
Dessert was the Apple Tarte Tatin, Pumpkin Spice Sundae, and Whiskey Pecan Date Pie - each an absolute pleasure.
As usual the cocktails and wine were excellent.
abcV reminds us of all the things we have to be thankful for and it is a great place to spend time with those you love.
