Happy New Year!
New Year's Eve always has a story to it. One of our favorite New Year's stories is the time we stayed at the Thompson Hotel in Toronto, got dressed in full evening wear for the party downstairs, then decided to take a quick power nap and… woke up the next morning. Epic. Missed it all. Funny thing is, we slept so well that we ended up buying that exact make and model of bed for our home.
Not all of our New Year's have been quiet nights in but that's what we did this year. 2023 was busy for us, so taking the evening to relax and reflect felt right. We still wanted to do something special, so we brought home a selection of vegan cheese from Riverdel Vegan Cheese Shop. The shop is located on the lower east side in the Essex Market. It's a fun outing. They have wheels of vegan cheese, cut them to order and sell them by weight. We arrived late in the day and the vegan cheesemonger notified us that many of the cheeses were sold out. So, be sure to go early for the best selection. However, there was still a lot to choose from and we walked away with more than enough. We got Smokey Cheddar, French Onion, Lemon and Dill, Soft Brie, Fig and Fennel, and a Pecorino.
Once home we made a board with the cheese adding fruit, veggies and crackers. All the cheeses were all pretty good. Our favorites were the French Onion and Lemon and Dill, but each were unique and fun to eat. The Brie even had a rind!
A little champagne and kisses at midnight made the evening perfect.
Wishing you joy and prosperity in 2024!
P.S. Happy Veganuary!
