When in Chicago over the summer we simply had to get a Chicago Style Hot Dog… but vegan of course.
If you don't know, Chicago is very particular about hot dogs. For starters, in Chicago, NEVER ask for ketchup on a hot dog - EVER! But there is a bit more to a Chicago Style Hot Dog than that.. Someone once described them as being “dragged through the garden.” You might agree and here’s why.
A Chicago style hot dog has:
- Sliced tomato
- Chopped onions
- A Pickle spear
- Chicago Sweet Relish (you can tell its legit from the neon green color)
- Yellow Mustard
- Sport peppers
- Celery salt
- And Served on a poppy seed bun.
It's pretty epic. And very unique - one cannot even find all the ingredients outside of The Windy City.
On this trip our vegan Chicago Style Hot Dog search brought us to the Gold Coast location of Can't Believe It's Not Meat.
They knocked it out of Wrigley Field!
We were so grateful to experience this vegan version of a classic.
Next time we’re in town we'll try Cant Believe It's Not Meat’s take on another Chicago classic - Italian NOT beef!
